So the time is fast approaching...and never was it more "real" than this Saturday evening. Beth Malone has officially made her exit from the Prom....and that only brings Victoria and I closer to the end ourselves.
We had a wonderful day together and survived the show with little tears and a whole lot of laughter.....which if any of you know Beth.....just goes hand in hand with her.
For those of you who don't know...Victoria Matlock is a woman of a million talents. Not only is she amazingly talented on stage...but she makes beautiful jewelry and purses and sews like a fiend.
So.....we all were the lucky recipients of many of her talents. She made us these wonderfully comfortable jumpers to wear between shows....here they are.
It's hard to wrap my brain around how many "lasts" I've experienced with the Wonderettes over the last ten years. The last of Milwaukee...twice, the last in Hermosa Beach, the last El Portal (LA) the final Laguna before I shipped off to NYC and now...the final Beth show. I said a few words....cried in front of quite a few strangers....drank a little too much...and the next day....did a show like it all had not even happened. Everything just continues...and when it's my turn next week...the next day...it will be like it never happened.
(here we are just before places- Beths final show)
(We killed her in 58 and shoved her out the door in 68.......off you go Malone!!!)
So now....I have 8 shows left. One full show week. The new girls are coming along and I think they will be so very good in the show. My friend Larry has said that it is empowering to originate a role and then leave the show and let it continue without you. I wish I was feeling good about my decision right now....but I'm not. Hopefully there will be some shifts this next week....but I think some people will never be happy knowing that the prom is going on without them.
THE BEST THING- Experiencing NYC with glorious weather living in Mid town....what a different world

Hi Bets!
I just want to say - on your side of the equation it might seem like it all never even happened, but on the audience side of the equation? We don't soon forget the cast that made the show so special for us. For a bunch of people like myself that love the show and have made return visits, it's hard to imagine the prom without you all. Personally, I know it will be jarring the next time I pay a visit to Springfield High and see faces that I don't recognize onstage. For every single person that has seen you perform in this show, you'll always be remembered as "their" Suzy.
So thank you for sharing Wonderettes with us (it has really has kept me - and many others - smiling), and best of luck with all of your future endeavors!
Bets,
I love your blog. It's so great having you retell so many of your stories. I feel like I know even more about the Wonderettes. Your last one about Beth was so sad!! I honestly could've cried, I love you guys so much! It was hard for me to accept Beth leaving, but now I have to let you and Victoria go too. NYC is never going to be the same without the original Wonderettes. I'm sure when I see the show again in about three weeks, the new girls will be great, but at the same token, it'll just make me relive those days when I started to cry because you, Beth, and Victoria had left. You are all so great and it kills me to see you leave. If I could I would be NYC in a split second to come for your last show. Unfortunately, I believe I have a softball tournament on that day :(. Have an incredible last week. Keep me updated on FB!!
Oh by the way, this is Joscelyn :)
