Sad Blog

Hopefully this will be my saddest blog of my adventures here in the Big (presently wet) Apple.
I unfortunately got a terrible cold that was going around our company (never french kiss Cindy Lou). I came down with it Friday and then sang on it two shows Saturday and two Shows Sunday. When I woke up Monday I could hardly speak. After much consideration and a day of tears (which did me no good) I had to call in sick to the show.
It was historical for me...and quite emotional. In 27 years (yes I'm old) of performing I've never missed a show. I also had so much guilt over the fact that my understudy had very little rehearsal and Wonderettes is an incredibly dense show. I hear she did great.
I went to the theatre to help her go over as much as I could and then my room mate Julie took me home on the train where I cried the whole way. Luckily the crowd on the New York trains wouldn't look twice at you if you had six heads.
The next morning my dear Perry Patton and Roger Bean sent me to their friends Swoozies doctor....Dr. Kessler. He was amazing and drugged me up enough to get me through last nights performance.
Right after the doctor I went to Swoozies apartment where Mr. Bean is staying and we decided the perfect thing to get me well was to inhale my medicine looking at her beautiful view holding one of her Tonys.  I highly recommend it for a spirit lift.

On the way to the theatre Roger and I passed the theatre where my dear friend Derek Keeling is playing Danny Zuko in Grease.
(Early this year I played opposite him...today he's a cardboard cut out in NYC)

It felt great to be back at the theatre for last nights show which I muscled through. Not sure if I will be doing both shows today. I think I only have one in me....and then a day off to really let the medicine heal me.

(Beth and Victoria getting ready)

So I'm learning there are a whole lot of firsts on this trip. Good ones and Bad.

I have to keep remembering that the good will always outweigh the bad. To quote my stage manager the great Andrew Neal "your sick....we're not saving lives here we're doing a show and you're too sick to do it"
More later
THE BEST THING-more overwhelming amounts of love and support than one person can handle
THE WORST THING- do I really have to go into it again?

I'm so sorry you're so sick! Boo! But I'm glad you didn't overdo it.
I love the Tony pic - priceless.
Um, I want Victoria's T-shirt! It's so cute!
Miss and love you -
